I bet you’ve been wondering how your competitors are advertising to your potential customers on Facebook and Instagram. Below, I am going to give you 3 tips that will show you a 360° view on their advertising. After this article, you will be able to find out their offers, images/videos being used, ad text, selected advertising platforms and a general idea of their targeting. Using these tools will enable you to create a strong strategy, so you can cut through the noise and win back those potential customers.
Facebook Ads Library
The Facebook Ads library. This free tool provided by Facebook lets you search any business page to view their current ads. You can find:
- Ad creatives including images, videos, headlines and descriptions being used.
- Offers provided by the business. This is usually included in the ad creative.
- If a business is advertising solely on one platform or Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Audience Network.
Head to your Ads Manager and create a dummy campaign. In the ad set, search to see if your competitor is an interest. This usually only works for bigger brands, BUT is definitely worth testing to see if their audience engages with your business too. More in the video below.
View Their Basic Audience Targeting
Stalk your competitors! Run through their website, Facebook and Instagram page multiple times. Ask your family, friends or staff to also do the same. You will begin seeing their ads (but also ads of similar businesses) pop up on your newsfeed. Click on the three buttons on the top right hand side and click “Why Am I Seeing This Ad”. You now will be able to see a rough audience breakdown for this ad.
